The US Government is introducing new travel document requirements for US travelers. Currently to travel back to the US by air you need a passport or NEXUS card (a special identification card for crossing the Canadian border), but you can still use your birth certificate or driver's license to travel between the US and Canada by land or sea until June 1, 2009.
